Electric trucks are still a small fleet — but the diagnostic gap is already visible: HV systems need isolation testing, battery health analysis and safety procedures that don't exist in the diesel world. Early movers are building the expertise now; this hub is the starting point.
Coverage and tool options
| Segment | Systems covered | Recommended tools |
|---|---|---|
| HV battery diagnostics | Cell balance, health, isolation | TEXA e-TRUCK coverage (most developed) |
| Inverters & drive units | Controller diagnostics | OEM tools + TEXA |
| Isolation testing | HV safety verification | CAT III/IV meters + PPE — mandatory |
| Charging systems | Depot charger diagnostics | Charger OEM tools |
Getting set up
Safety first: HV work requires rated PPE, isolation testers and training — no exceptions, and no tool purchase substitutes for the training. Tool-side, TEXA's e-TRUCK package is the most developed multi-brand EV coverage; OEM platforms are model-specific. See also the EV diagnostics blog primer.

Can regular truck diagnostic tools read electric trucks?
For chassis systems, partially. For HV battery, drive units and charging — no. EV-specific coverage (TEXA e-TRUCK or OEM tools) plus HV safety equipment and training are required.
Should my shop invest in EV diagnostics now?
If you service municipal bus fleets, delivery fleets going electric, or dealer-adjacent work — yes, the lead time on expertise is the moat. General diesel shops can watch and wait another cycle.
