Truck ABS & EBS Fault Codes: Bendix, WABCO, Haldex

The lamp that fails inspections — decoded for all three ABS platforms, including the no-scanner blink-code methods.

An ABS lamp means a failed inspection and a sidelined truck. The good news: ABS faults are the most patterned in the industry — wheel-speed sensors, modulator valves, tone rings — and every platform has a no-laptop retrieval method for roadside triage.

How ABS/EBS fault codes work

Bendix: blink codes via the dash lamp (ignition sequence) or ACom AE. WABCO: blink codes via the trailer ABS lamp or TOOLBOX Plus. Haldex: lamp-based blink codes on trailers; diagnostics via proprietary interface. SPN/FMI equivalents shown where the platform publishes them.

Tools that read and clear ABS/EBS codes

ACom AE and TOOLBOX Plus are the factory tools; both read trailer systems via PLC through the 7-way with a $189 adapter. Multi-brand scanners read tractor ABS codes on all three platforms — the fastest triage path. Full service procedures in the ABS service guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I read Bendix ABS codes without a scanner?

Ignition on, press the brake pedal and hold the ABS diagnostic switch (or use the lamp blink sequence per ECU generation — EC-60 vs EC-80 differ). Count lamp flashes, check this page. Full procedure in the ABS service guide.

Will an ABS fault fail a DOT inspection?

An illuminated ABS lamp is an inspection violation on tractor and trailer. The underlying fault (sensor, valve) doesn't sideline the truck mechanically, but the lamp does legally.

Why does my trailer ABS lamp come on only when loaded?

Load-dependent EBS behavior usually means a worn sensor gap or a failing modulator that only shows under braking pressure. TEBS diagnostics via TOOLBOX Plus isolates it; lamp-only triage won't.
